- Authentication & Session Security: First-party session tokens and Clerk authentication cookies manage sign-in state, maintain CSRF protection, and keep your session secure across visits.
- User Preferences: Your theme choice, mechanical keyboard sound pack, UI density, and test mode selections are stored locally in your browser’s
localStorageso your settings remain intact across sessions without unnecessary server queries. - Offline & Local Typing Data: Typing test history, local Typing DNA statistics, and personal best caches are stored directly in your browser (
IndexedDBandlocalStorage). - Service Worker & Offline Cache: Asset versioning caches core application files for Progressive Web App (PWA) and offline typing functionality.
3. Measurement & Analytics (Google Analytics)
When configured in production, RaccoonType uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand general website usage and maintain service stability.
- What is processed: Pseudonymous aggregate data such as page views, navigation paths, approximate geographic region (country/city level), browser type, and device category.
- Purpose: Measuring traffic volume, detecting broken routes or performance regressions, and evaluating feature adoption.
- Configuration & Safeguards: IP anonymization is requested (
anonymize_ip: true). We do not enable Google Signals advertising features, remarketing audiences, or cross-service profiling. - Jurisdictional Notice: Cookie consent and classification requirements vary depending on your location and applicable data protection regulations. If you prefer not to participate in aggregate measurement, you can disable cookies in your browser or install the official Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
4. What We Do Not Use
- No third-party advertising cookies or retargeting pixels (e.g., no Facebook Pixel, TikTok Pixel, or programmatic ad tags).
- No data brokering or sale of typing telemetry to marketing networks.
- No cross-site tracking of your browsing habits across external domains.
5. Storage Categories & Lifespans
5.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies
Essential for account sign-in, account security, and session maintenance. Typical lifespan: session duration or up to 30 days for persistent login tokens.
5.2 Functional Storage (localStorage / IndexedDB)
Stores UI theme, audio presets, and client-side test records. Persists indefinitely in your local browser until you clear site data or delete your account.
5.3 Performance & Analytics Cookies
Set by Google Analytics (e.g., _ga, _ga_*) when active. Standard retention: 2 to 14 months depending on configuration.
6. Managing & Clearing Your Data
You can control or clear cookies and local browser storage at any time via your browser settings:
- Clearing cookies will sign you out of active accounts.
- Clearing site storage resets local preferences (theme, sound pack) to defaults.
- To delete server-stored account records, you can use the self-service Delete Account feature on your Account page.
