1. Summary
TackTile uses only first-party cookies and browser local storage. We do not place third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
2. What we use cookies / local storage for
- Authentication (Clerk): session token, last-used sign-in method, CSRF token
- Preferences: theme, sound pack, UI density, last-used test mode
- Local typing data: test results, Typing DNA, last-known WPM, history (IndexedDB)
- Service worker / PWA: cache version for offline support
3. What we do not use
- No Google Analytics or other third-party analytics
- No Facebook Pixel, TikTok Pixel, or any social ad trackers
- No advertising cookies
- No cross-site tracking
4. Cookie types
4.1 Strictly necessary
Authentication cookies are required for the sign-in flow and cannot be disabled. Guest users do not receive any authentication cookies until they sign in.
4.2 Preferences
Theme, sound pack, and last-used mode are stored in localStorage and are not sent to the server. Clearing site data resets these preferences.
5. Duration
- Authentication cookies: session-based or 30-day persistent (Clerk default)
- Preferences (localStorage): persistent until you clear site data
- Typing data (IndexedDB): persistent until you clear site data or delete your account
6. Third-party cookies
When you load TackTile, your browser may set third-party cookies for:
- Clerk authentication scripts (only after you start the sign-in flow)
- Sound pack audio files (hosted on a CDN; the CDN may set its own cookies)
We do not control these third-party cookies. See the Privacy Policy for the data we share.
7. How to manage cookies
You can clear cookies and local storage at any time through your browser settings. Doing so will sign you out and reset preferences. Guest typing data is preserved in IndexedDB until you clear site data or call the reset API.
8. Changes
We will update this page if our cookie practices change. Material changes will be communicated via in-app notification.
