1. Overview
RaccoonType (“we”, “us”, or “our”) is an independent competitive typing platform. We prioritize minimizing data collection: core typing tests operate locally in your browser, an account is optional, and we do not sell your personal data or typing telemetry to advertisers or data brokers.
2. Information We Collect & Process
2.1 Local & Guest Data (No Account Required)
- Typing Performance Metrics: Net WPM, raw WPM, accuracy percentage, consistency scores, and error counts. For guests, these are stored locally in browser storage (
IndexedDBandlocalStorage). - Preferences: UI theme, mechanical sound pack, sound volume, and layout options.
- Guest Multiplayer Sessions: Temporary guest race records are stored with a 7-day automated expiration TTL to facilitate real-time party races without mandatory sign-in.
2.2 Account Data (When You Create an Account)
If you choose to create an account, we store:
- Authentication Profile: Username, display name, email address, avatar URL, and user identifier provided via our authentication provider (Clerk) or native session.
- Synced Performance History: Test records, personal bests, seasonal XP, level progression, and ranked ELO match history.
- Social & Clan Features: Clan membership, friends lists, follow relationships, notifications, and clan battle history.
- Virtual Inventory: Earned virtual Coins and unlocked cosmetic items (badges, banners, titles).
2.3 Optional AI Custom Practice Drills
The majority of the AI Typing Coach operates deterministically in your browser or through standard mathematical calculations on past test statistics.
Only when you explicitly request a custom drill via “Generate custom drill” is a request sent to our third-party inference provider (Groq). We transmit only the topic prompt and requested passage length. We do not transmit your raw keystroke timing logs, personal identity, email address, or entire test transcripts to the LLM provider.
3. What We Do Not Collect
- We do not record microphone audio. Keyboard sound synthesis and playback utilize the browser Web Audio API locally.
- We do not log personal keystroke content outside the scope of the test words generated for your practice session.
- We do not deploy cross-site tracking pixels or sell user telemetry to marketing networks.
4. Third-Party Service Providers
We partner with select third-party infrastructure providers to operate RaccoonType:
- Clerk: Manages authentication, identity verification, password hashing, and session tokens. See Clerk Privacy Policy.
- Turso / libSQL: Provides cloud-synced database infrastructure for storing user accounts, test summaries, and leaderboards.
- Groq Inc.: Processes custom practice drill text generation requests (receiving only the topic prompt and length instructions).
- Google Analytics (GA4): When active in production, processes pseudonymous aggregate metrics (page paths, browser type, approximate region) with IP anonymization requested to monitor service stability and performance.
5. Your Rights & Self-Service Account Deletion
You have control over your data:
- Access & Review: View your complete typing history and account details from your Account and Statistics pages.
- Self-Service Account Deletion: You may permanently delete your account at any time directly from the Account page under the Danger Zone section.
- What Happens on Deletion: Your user profile, personal bests, individual test results, summary records, leaderboard rows, and virtual inventory are permanently deleted from our primary database. If you own a clan, ownership is transferred to another active member, or the clan is deleted if you are the sole member.
- Local Data Clearing: You can clear locally cached guest history and preferences at any time via your browser settings.
6. Data Retention & Security
Account data is retained for as long as your account remains active. When you delete your account, your personal records are removed from our operational database. Anonymized statistical benchmarks (such as overall community percentile distributions) may be retained without personal identifiers.
We implement industry-standard safeguards including HTTPS encryption in transit, strict database transport security, and signed session tokens. However, no internet transmission is guaranteed 100% impenetrable.
7. Minors & Children
RaccoonType is designed as a general-audience typing performance platform and does not knowingly target or collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you should use RaccoonType with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian. If you believe an unauthorized account for a child has been created, please reach out to our team.
8. International Considerations
RaccoonType operates from India and is accessible internationally. Data may be stored or processed in servers located across different regions. Specific regional statutory requirements and interpretations vary by jurisdiction.

We may update this Privacy Policy as our features evolve. When significant changes occur, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
