Benchmark accuracy brackets based on touch-typing standards.
| Tier | Accuracy Bracket | Classification | Recommended Focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diamond | 99.0% – 100.0% | Flawless Mastery | Top 2% typists, minimal cognitive drag, professional court reporters. |
| Platinum | 97.5% – 98.9% | Professional Precision | Software engineers, professional typists with clean muscle memory. |
| Gold | 95.0% – 97.4% | Target Touch Typist | Healthy baseline where speed and error correction are well balanced. |
| Silver | 92.0% – 94.9% | Developing Speed | Typist pushing for speed before fine motor control has stabilized. |
| Bronze | < 92.0% | Needs Accuracy Focus | High backspace penalty; slowing down 10 WPM increases net output. |
Typing accuracy is the percentage of correctly typed characters out of all characters attempted during a typing test. For example, if you type 200 characters and 10 are wrong, your accuracy is 95%.
Most touch typists aim for 95% or higher. Professional transcriptionists and data entry specialists often achieve 98%+. However, accuracy and speed trade off — very fast typists often have slightly lower accuracy because they make more errors at high speed.
Generally, there is an inverse relationship: as typing speed increases, accuracy tends to decrease slightly. The accuracy-speed table on this page shows this relationship using real first-party data from RaccoonType test results.
Your accuracy is calculated as: (correct characters / total characters) × 100. Backspaces and corrections are counted — the accuracy reflects your final text, not raw keystrokes.
Yes. Slow down and focus on hitting the right keys. Use typing practice modes to build muscle memory. As your finger positions become automatic, both speed and accuracy improve together.
